A Case in Point

A very well known European manufacturer of high quality automobiles requires to monitor up to 200 temperatures in various locations of cars coming off the production line during road test. The tests are conducted under normal and extreme environmental conditions in order to evaluate the reliability of all system components. The construction and quality of the thermocouples, wire, and connectors are extremely important in order that accurate and consistent information is recorded by the data acquisition system installed into the automobile.

Problem

The technicians and engineers conducting the road tests reported inconsistent data due to frequent breaks and kinks in the thermocouple lead wire due to the stress placed on the connector housings during the extreme testing involving shock, vibration, and high temperatures. They expressed a need for a modified connector shell with improved wire protection, ability to withstand higher temperatures, and easier wire connections to cut down in labor time required to connect all sensors to the data acquisition systems.

OMEGA Solution

Modified ConnectorsIn conjunction with our customer, our local sales office within Europe, OMEGA USA's temperature application, custom engineering, design, manufacturing, and production teams, OMEGA developed a modified connector which covered all parameters. The new connector provides better mechanical separation of the thermocouple lead wires, higher ambient temperature rating up to 260°C, and an internal design which allows faster thermocouple wire insertion.

This new OMEGA HMP series connector is now in stock!
